I have been reloading for a while now and am pleased with my results.

My next step is casting my own bullets.

My first step towards this is a good manual or book.

Can you give my suggestions?

Oh I will be casting for 45 acp and 44magnum.

:D You might want to get the LYMAN cast bullet book.  It will help ya a lot,and give yu some additional insights to go along with it.  King 8)

the Lyman kit is very good starter set up I used mine for 10 plus years. :wink:

Billly Marr,

Does the Lyman kit have the ability to use hard lube?  or just the liquid?   Seems to me the stick is the way to go.   Excuse me if I am using the wrong terms.

The Lyman kit is what I have been eying...It comes with a manual.  On your say so I will probablly get the kit and manual at same time...once I get a handle on this stick lube stuff.  Can you straighten me out on this?

It uses a hollow stick lube. It does not come with a heater but I have an extra one laying around some where. For what you will be shooting most of the comercial lubes will be fine includinng mine. With the lyman kit you will get some good stuff at a reasonable price to start with. Be sure you read the book at least once every couple of months it is full of info and you will not truly understand it until you are casting. I still find my self reading it. Just to bring my self back to basics.

Where are you located?? Reason is that if you can watch someone cast it will be well worthwhile.  Reading is great--do it all the time, but if you can see casting in action you can ask questions and maybe have a hand at it yourself.

Thanks for your help.  

I will be going with the lyman kit, and eventually ordering the heater for it.

The Lyman equipment seems to be reasonable enough.

I am in norht west  Indiana.   I can ask some of the fellows at the local gun club about a look see at casting.  That seems to be a good idea.

Nothin' wrong with getting a heater-- but it isn't necessary. Plenty of good lubes to use sans the hardness needed for heat. If I need heat, I lay a small lite bulb next to the base.

Some of those real hard lubes aren't much anyways....

i have a lyman kit coming from midway, on sale 99.00 hopefully it will be here by 12-23,that way i can pour some ingots and check it out over the holidays,i bought a lee mold  .475-400gr tried it a little bit but want to get serious with it ,waiting on a couple ballisticast molds hopefully they will get here soon  :grin:  the kit comes with lyman manual, pot ,                  450 lube/sizer.cant wait :grin:
