Finally. broken in - bullet update w/pics
« on: December 02, 2008, 03:10:16 PM »
Well after carrying it on a few trips to the field and allot of work at the range the USH is broken in.  A very long day in the stand and it payed off in the end.

Barnes Tipped Expander 2 3/4in, 3/4oz, 85 yards, quartered away (allot), went about 20 yards, slug caught just under the hide inside the right front shoulder.  Excellent performance on the way through!

Skinned and recovered the bullet so here are the pictures.

This was the first deer I have taken with Barnes Expanders in any firearm so I did not know what to expect.  Normally I would consider a bullet that did not pass through questionable but due to shot placement and the amount of expansion I think this one is an exception.  He was quartered away (allot), entered back of the center of the ribs (Not gut shot) traveled through the vitals back to front and stuck just under the hide in the inside edge of the right front shoulder.  I was lucky in that the path could not have been any better at this angle.  As stated above very good performance, nothing left of lungs or heart.

and here are the pics, I for one was impressed.

If you were going to carry one very far you would need a mule,  they are heavy.
