410 slug question...

How far is too far to shoot deer with the .410 slugs? Shooting them through a Pardner single shot with full choke.

I've shot a few deer with 3" brenekee 410 slugs. Hit through the boiler room I've never had one run more than 30-40 yds. I limit my shots to within 25 yards, almost like I'm bowhunting. I had a gunsmith cut the choke off my 410 and I had it drilled and tapped for a scope. I wouldn't advise hunting with a 410 unless you can put the slug exactly where you need it to be. I never tried shooting slugs with the full choke and bead sight but I haven't had the best luck aiming slugs with only a bead. Good luck.

Stick to bowhunting range and you'll be all set.
My daughter's .410 shoots slugs pretty accurate with the
full choke.

I never hunted deer with a .410 but I remember and old guys saying that if you could Thow a rock and hittum that little 410 will gittum" That was 30 years ago but I dont think 410 slugs have changed that much.

Markus, the slugs have only gotten better, it's the deer that have changed. Haven't you heard buddy, by many accounts the new super strain of deer are armor plated and/or wearing Kevlar bullet proof vests. That's why many "hunters" now think deer, and other game and varmints as well, can only be shot with the newest short magnum style super pooper dooper magnums. Oh yes, have you heard, the venerable old tried and true 45-70 is now only a 100 yard cartridge as well...Merry Christmas....<><....

If your .410 doesn't shoot slugs well you can always try buckshot, too.
The come in either 2 1/2" 000 buck (3 pellets) or 3" 000 buck (5 pellets).
My daughters .410 didn't pattern the 3" at all (off the paper) but the 2 1/2" shells patterned near perfect at 25 yards.

.410 is not legal in my state but I guess I would go with the rock statement.  As far as buckshot goes, I guess I wouldn't use that on deer.  Maybe a pheasant, but not a deer....
