17hmr contender question
« on: December 07, 2008, 03:56:48 AM »
Are the 17hmr handgun barrels for the contender as accurate as the marlin or savage rifles?  I have a marlin and my brother has a savage, and we can cut holes consistantly at 100 yds off of a good rest.  I know a guy who had a rossi, and it was terrible, hardly hit a pop can at 100 yds.  I was just wondering how the shorter contender handgun barrels shoot.  I also would like to know how the 10" 22lr barrels shoot just out of curiosity, as I have one of those on the way.

I have a 14" and 21" .17HMR Contender barrel.  The 14" may be the most accurate Contender I have.  It is deadly accurate.  1" groups of 5 rounds at 100yd are easy as long as the old man does his part.  Velocity does not drop off as much as you think either.  My .22lr barrels are also quite accurate, but I don't know if they can match the .17.  It would be close.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  ;)

I own both a 17Mach2 and a 17HMR both are accurate if I do my part. Both barrels are factory 14inch units and topped with Weaver glass. Love them both are extremely accurate
