45/70 barrell question
« on: December 06, 2008, 06:02:51 AM »
I am still working on my target 45/70 with the BC barrell. I want a "clean" end on the barrell, if possible (no dove tail cut out for a sight post). Has anyone ever ordered one like that? Will H&R NOT cut it out if requested? I did not know what the factory will or will not do. I am going to call them Monday, but some of the folks here have so much experience, that I thought I would ask. Thanks.

Barrels are made in runs of 100-500, they don't make a barrel for each accessory barrel order, so the BC barrel would be already cut to standards long before it's fitted. Best suggestion is have it shortened and recrowned or just use a Marbles dovetail blank.

Ditto on the dovetail blank, they work great and save you from cutting the barrel down.

This is why I ask questions here, (even though some are not exactly NASA grade), thanks very much for the information.
