Curly maple stocks
« on: December 09, 2008, 02:53:02 AM »
I've seen a few pictures of the rare curly maple stock set, but never one in person.  All of those in the pictures are a yellowish color.
Has anyone ever seen one wearing the ugly brown stain from the pallet wood?

I just found a new handi on the rack with the beautiful vertical striping of curly maple, but it was hidden under brown ugliness.  I thought about buying it just to strip the finish and make it a nice looking natural wood stock set.

Sometimes the pallet wood stocks appear to have a curly maple like look.
I've seen this happen in the Ruger 10/22 stocks, and they are beautiful when finished with other than factory stain.

If it's not actually curly maple then I'd still buy it just because it's a good find!

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Three weeks ago in a Gander Mountain in Virginia I saw a NIR Buffalo Classic with a "curly walnut" butt stock but it had a "pallet wood" forearm !
