7.62x54r cast load info needed?
« on: December 05, 2008, 04:47:44 PM »
Hello, I need a cast load for a Mosin that I have that shoots jacketed bullets very well with reduced loads. I've been using   2400  22.0grs over a Sierra 150grain .311 soft point. I'm just looking for a cheaper option, and I've told that lead was the way to go. I've been loading for about 5 years, but haven't loaded any lead before. I have 2400, and IMR 4759 on hand, and need recommendation's on lead to try. It's slugging about .3125, but really shoots very accurate with .311 jacketed.

This is the book.

http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000159837249

My copy is from 1973.  It lists loads with UNIQUE & 2400 for 3 cast bullets at 155 gr, 173 gr., and213 gr.

I know other powders in within these ranges of relative quickness can be used, but I have no data ready.  I googled 7.62X54R and cast bullets and saw a few loads others have used.

The Lyman book is not expensive and it is authoritative. Most outdoor businesses can get it, But I have had great prices and service from Midsouth.
