Ruger Special Runs: Desirable Collector Guns?
« on: December 05, 2008, 03:08:36 PM »
Currently, Lipsey's is offering a Ruger International in stainless, caliber 7mm-08. Only 250 are being made in this caliber. How do you guys feel about the various special run Rugers as collectibles?

I feel that some of the special runs will be true collectors either as soon as they are released or in the futher.
I have never gotten into Ruger rifles but have a very extensive collection of their single actions.
Some are quite rare such as a matched pair of consecutive serial # high polish stainless Vaqueros in 40 S&W from a special run of presentation guns made for a police department as citation award guns of which there was only 250 sold to the public.
Also have a matched pair of consecutive serial # high polish stainless Vaquero two cylinders in 40 S&W/38-40.
Only 250 of these were made.
I have 2 IMSA silhouette models 1 of 500 with 10.5" barrels in 44 mag.
I have the whole set of every factory two cylinder Blackhawks in the blue model ever made.

While as singles they are desirable guns, as a matched pair of consecutive serial #s, or very low production numbers, or odd caliber, or presentation guns, or as a complete set they would command a premium over other single guns in the same class.
I am sure the same could be said for other makes and models as well.

These are distributor editions.  Uncataloged variation contracted by a distributor for thier sole distribution.  Most of the distibrutors and many manufacturers do this.
As to the collectability of them...They'd be sought after if there was a large amount of interest for them, many cases this isn't the case.  Some surely are more desieable than others.  Some preious special run models are still easily found s they just didn't catch the market's attention.  The specific variation and chambering play a big part in this as well.
These MkII's are part of an ongoing series and they have a bit of interest but not a lot.

Many years ago I bought a Ruger 77 mkII in 35 whelen with open sights it was a special edition. I am not sure what was special about them other than a non catalog item. But I like it and it is much lighter than my 338's and just as deadly inside 350 yds.
