Hog hunting

Does a non resident need a licenses to hunt hogs in Oklahoma?  Everything I read in the game regulations says no they don't.  Seems kind of strange a licenses is needed for everything except hogs.  Have been aiming to call the game warden but thought maybe someone here knew the answer also.

Hog Hunting on Private Lands

Hogs may be taken year-round on private land during daylight hours with the landowner’s permission.

Resident & Nonresident License Requirements: No hunting license required, except during youth deer gun, deer muzzleloader, deer gun, holiday antlerless deer gun (in open zones), elk gun (in open counties) and antelope (in open areas) seasons, hunters must possess a filled or unfilled license appropriate for the current season, unless otherwise exempt. A Legacy permit is also required unless exempt.

Landowners may obtain a free hog hunting permit from the local game warden for use during those deer seasons listed above

Thanks Hofs01 but as I mentioned I've read the regulation and that is the point of my question.  If I'm interpreting this correctly, come May or June when none of these seasons are open, my son-in-law will not need a license to go hog hunting with me.  It just seems like a odd duck in the regulations.

The way I see it is:

If its not during any of these seasons he is exempt. They do not want to catch a person without a license during deer season holding a high powered rifle and he says " I am hog hunting". Look at the Prairie dog regs and it specifically states:

License Requirements

Residents and Nonresidents: A hunting license and a Legacy permit or proof of exemption.

There's no sense in taking a chance. I'd call the OK df&g to be sure.

I think a license is not required as they are not considered "game" animals instead they are domestic.

Even with that, for Oklahoma to allow something for free is an amazing thing in itself.

Specklebelly you were correct.  Called the DF&G and also talked to a local game warden and as long as one is on private land, there is no licenses requirement for anyone whether resident or non-resident as hogs are not considered game animals.

it is illegal to hunt hogs on public land but legal to kill them on public land. You must be hunting in an open season and can kill feral hogs if they happen upon you. I put corn out for squirrels and then sit with my bow or rifle to see what happens. This is for public land you should be fine on private. My only question would be if he is NOT the landowner he possibly would need the license.

Look at page 23 of the hunting regs.   There is that paragraph on page 23 of the hunting regs that says;
"On WMAs open during any regular hunting season, hunters will be allowed to harvest hogs by whatever means legal during that season."   This does not apply to Honobia Creek, Three Rivers and Broken Bow WMAs where no hog hunting is allowed outside deer season. 

On page 22, under Squirrel and Rabbit regularions, it states under  Legal  means of taking  Shotgun (conventional or muzzleloading), rifle (conventional or muzzleloading), handgun, archery......."

My only question would be if he is NOT the landowner he possibly would need the license.

Nope........ not at all.  All that is required is permission from the land owner to hunt that land which is true for any hunting on private land.

On private land after deer seasons go hunting how you want except at night, if you plan on going to any public land read the reguations carefully or contact the unit manager for specifics. He may also put you on some hogs as they are constantly fighting the things to keep them under control.
       I also just thought of something. To hunt a WMA or PHA you have to be hunting with a legal weapon for the season at that time so he would have to have a hunting license there.  JMHO

Most of my hog hunting lately is sneaking up on a trap with my Ruger single six.
