My 200 .223
« on: November 24, 2008, 01:41:08 PM »
FINALLY,

Well i just got my savage stevens 200 today when i got home from school dad had it on my bed. and so far i am impressed. I have prepared myself for the wors when it comes to the stock, and i dont know if its because its new or what but its really not that bad and there is really only one point behind the trigger guard thats sharp. i will have a full range report once i get a chance. i still need the money for my scope and maount tho. i am getting a dednutz low mount and butting a bushnell 6-24x40 banner on it. I absoutely love this gun, my first bolt rifle :)

I think you will find that it a really great little rifle. Not the prettiest bolt action around but it really performs out of all proportion to it's cost. I scraped the mold seam off my stock with a sharp knife. I didn't try to cut it off, I held the blade at a 90 degree angle to the stock and scraped it smooth. You can cover up that ugly color with some Krylon paint too. Enjoy.

Heck if it shoots half as good as my old 110 did you will have a super accurate rifle. Have fun.

I have a Stevens 200 in .223.  Its an excellent shooter with a variety of reloads and factory ammo.

Outside of the sharp edges and color, you may find the stock will be OK.  I have several 200's and have not needed to modify the stock on any of them.

Congratulations to you and Cudo's to your Dad.

Well done, good choice of rifle and mounts. I have a DedNutz Savage short action low mount. I put it on my ML but it was too low. There is a mark on the back end where I started to try grinding it down a little. I came to my senses before any serious damage ocurred. All in the box and shipped to you for $20 if you want.

I have 2 Stevens 200 that were originally 223. Both of them were the older style. The stocks on the newer 200's have been improved. They are not nearly as rough as the older ones were. There were issues with some of the older ones not feeding well out of the magazine too. The newer center feed magazines are supposed to have fixed that problem. On my older ones, I just made them into single shots - problem solved ;) Good luck and Good Shooting

Here is a pic of one of them - been modified a little ;D

I had mine out shooting the other week for the first time. You are going to love the way these shoot. I was shooting 55gr Rem FMJ's and it was driving nice groups @ 100 yards I have no douts yours should do well also.

wow, thank you all

this site is what made me get the stevens over the H&R Ultra Varmint, and with all of this i have no doubt i will love this rifle, i just wanted a rifle i could shoot very accurate and be cheap. Well i love my new "class ring" :) it will be a while before i get to shoot it tho, i dont have $$ for the mount and scope.

is there anyone who has the dednuz low with a Banner 6-24, or a scope with a lense of 40mm by chance?

i contacted dednuz and found out that the distance between the bottom of the mount and the bottom of the ring would be right at .420in. and then i tried to contact bushnell so i could have the scope mesaurements and it was classified, like im gonna make my own scope or something.

so is there anyone that knows for a fact this fits, i want the lowest mount possible right?

Thank you all soo much,
Kyle hawkins

Hello,

im kind of in a pinch, i contached DNZ rings and they said that from the bottom of the base to the bottom or the ring on their low mount is exactly .420 inch. ok well i know that much, so then i tried to contact bushnell to get their half of the info and they said it was "Classified" ? what the heck?

So basically,
CAN ANYONE TELL ME THEIR SETUP ON THEIR SAVAGE/STEVENS RIFLE WITH DNZ RINGS AND WHAT SIZE SCOPE?

ex.
Stevens 200
DNZ High matte ring mount
leupold 3-9x50

AND COULD YOU TELL ME (IF YOU HAVE THE LOW MOUNT) HOW MUCH CLEARANCE YOU HAVE WITH YOUR SCOPE DO YOU THINK A 40MM WILL FIT?

Just from measuring my Savage I think the low will be too low with a 40mm scope.  It will be close, depends on how the barrel tapers and how long the scope is.  Larry
