M-39 Finnish Mosin Nagant
« on: December 12, 2008, 02:13:16 AM »
Lets wake this place up a bit with a little gun porn.

First up this is my 1942 B barrel M-39 Finnish Mosin Nagant. Caliber like all Mosins is 7.62X54R. However no Mosin of Finnish origin should ever be confused with the functional but more crudely manufactured  Russian Mosin Nagants. Finnish Mosin Nagants are the Cadillacs of the Mosin world and this is the last model they produced before stepping up to a semi-auto standard issue battle rifle. The Finnish people are absolutely anal about accuracy. These rifles were test fired and shimmed as needed by gunsmiths before they left the factory because they had to pass a pretty strick accuracy requirement or they would be rejected. Another difference between these rifles and their Russian cousins is the Finns used arctic birch wood for the stocks that often had beautiful swirling burl patterns in the wood.

Please don't think I'm knocking the Russian Mosin Nagants however. I love and own several of them too. Where else are you gonna find a safe, reliable, high powered rifle for less than 100 bucks besides a Russian Mosin Nagant. And I have found them to be decently accurate as well. I have a 91/30 that I feel very confident with out to 150 yards.

If you remove the barreled receiver from the stock and look at the receiver near the mounting screw hole you should see the original year of the russian mosin it was made from.

All of the finnish mosins are awesome even the 91/30's too.

Hey, that looks just like mine!  I had better check the gun safe just to be sure it isn't.  Whooo! what a relief, mine is still there!

I bought mine about 1 1/2 years ago for $130.  What a deal!  It shoots very well, as expected.  All I have done is to replace the issue rear sight blade that has a notch with a home-made one with a aperture.  How nice of the Finn's to make it removable!  The only thing that I find fault with is the weight of the rifle.  But I bet that it would make a better bayonet platform than the standard 91/30 because of it's greater weight.

My only other current Mosin is a 91/59 carbine that also shoots very well but is harder to use because of the fixed notch on the rear sight.
