Loading Sabots with Lube

Hello & Merry Christmas! Does anyone who uses these, for example the Hornady SST/ML which I'm experimenting with in my Lyman GPH, think that lubing the outside surface of the sabot aids in loading, as opposed to running it dry down the bore? A shooting buddy of mine suggested I might use Bore butter. Would there be any effect on accuracy, one way or the other? I'd appreciate your thoughts on the subject, & thanx. BTW, I'm attempting to get this rifle to be a flat-shooting 100YD gun with this or some other projectile combo. jd45

I should add that up to now I 've been using the Hornady Great Plains .50-cal, 385GR-HP conicals at no more than 50YDS, which BTW, shoot VERY well in the rifle, up to that distance. jd45

I've never lubed the outside of the sabot, but I have always filled the rear hollow with lube (usually shortening, but the last couple of times Bore Butter).  Don't think it helps with the loading of the current round, but seems to keep the fouling softened for the next round.  Never seem to hurt accuracy either.  BTW, the shortening seems to work just as well as the Bore Butter and is a hell of alot cheaper.

I did it when I was shooting my Encore with triple7 powder. Worked good for me.

According to T/C Omega manual sabots are specifically designed to be used in a dry barrel without lube. In fact the manual warns against lubing sabots.

I wouldn't use lube.  It's not necessary and makes the gun harder to clean.

My TC 45 XR Black Diamond shot terrible groups with bore butter swabbed out from the barrel.  After 15 shots or so it would settle down and shoot great.  Quit using BB and it became a tack driver.  Just my experience.  Play around with it and see.

shooting the barrel completely dry will give the best accuracy... That came straight from the ppl at Hogdon powder.
