32 H&R to 327 - feasible?
« on: December 15, 2008, 09:54:56 AM »
Anyone try reaming out a 32 H&R Mag chamber to 327?  Worth it?  Is the 327 brass better than the .32 mag brass?

What are you using it for? You've posted a silhouette pig. I shoot NRA sils with 32 HRM and nothing more is needed. You can take down anything on a 100M range with standard 323HRM. .327 will be insufficient for big bore animals.

Steve, I had the same idea and then I kind of talked myself out of it.  In a Contender or revolver, it would fill a void that really isn't there.  I already have a 32/20 and a 30carbine....but....still I don't have a .327 and I could be the first one on my block.  ???
Have you had trouble with H & R brass?  I have not....at least no more than I would expect....and yes I have hot-rodded the little rascals some.

i have a Ruger 327 . had to shoot H&R mag. till 327 ammo arrived . big difference in them . I would guess in the Ruger it could be done if cyl. is same in size and pressure limits (proof) . Single shot why not .
can't wait until brass is aval.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I'm sure there's quite a difference in factory ammo.  I doubt there near as much difference in my handloads. Walt  ;)

I have two contender barrels and two single sixes in the .32 H&R Magnum.  I had found an extra 32 Mag cylinder and was thinking of trying the lengthened brass in it.  While I procrastinated 24 hours the cylinder sold.

".327 will be insufficient for big bore animals."

From what I have read, and experienced, I have to disagree with this comment.  My 32 H&R mag 10" contender barrel with RCBS 165 silhouette bullet will take any of the big bore targets out to 200 meters.  .327 is 1/8" longer so should do same or better.

Thanks for the replies.  As stated in a prior post, I don't have one and could be the first guy on the block to experience one.  I will keep looking.

My son has a 32 HRM and while everyone has their own tastes, I would just go to a new gun. Would expect Ruger to come out with something like a single six in .327. I shoot at the heart of Tx shooting assoc. and I have seen the rams ring with .357 Mag, and .41 Mag. Seems like the people that do well use something on the order of 7TCU or 30-30. If you can do it with a 165 gr. 327, I'm impressed. Think I'll stick with a 30-30.

The 32 H&R is one of my Dad's favorites for his Contenders - with good reason!  The TC 32 Magnum actually has a .308 bore (think about 110 grain "spire points").  The 32 Mag is super accurate, and he's thinking about having a barrel rechambered in 327.  Should be a lot of fun!

Maybe he'll leave the barrel to me some day!   ;)
