quick release scope rings/mounts
« on: December 15, 2008, 08:12:58 AM »
Can you guys make a recommendation on which rings and bases to get for my Knight Disc Extreme.  I want to be able to take a scope on and off.  I want it to be dependable and don't want see-through mounts.

Thank you,

I have Warne QD rings on 9 of my muzzleloaders. I also use Warne bases when I can find them.

I never have a problem with my zero when I remove/replace the scope.

Do the Warne QD rings work on standard "Weaver style" bases?

I found a used set of Leupold QR bases for $20.00, so I guess I'm going that route.  This should keep the whole setup in the $50.00 range now, just sounds alot better than $80-100.

Thank ya'll for your help.

Never had a problem with mine remeber you don't need to pound them to lock up tight! I shoot high rings so scope clears rear sight.

If I go with a 32mm scope, what ring height do I need with the Leupold QR rings (I've heard the height on these is not the same as the standard Leupold rings).  What if I go with a 40mm scope?

Will high's be too high?

I want to make sure that my rear sight doesn't get in the way, and I don't want to take the sight off.

Thank ya'll,

I dont think there is a standard of height's when it come's to ring's Some mfg's measure from the inside bottom of the ring and some measure from the center of the ring. You are doing the best by asking here for some one's advice. I had a rough time with ring's for my CZ 453 varminter... The cost wasnt the problem..It was buying 3 sets before I found one that worked. I had to get high for my 1" tube to clear as it's the tube that goes over sight. Medium cleared till I sighted in an had to raise rear sight! Now flip leavers take scope off shoot hit. Put scope on flip leavers shoot hit works great for me!

Nitro

Not sure if clear on last post as I'm sitting in hotel on road. But to let you know Leupold VXII 3X9X40mm objective will with high rings 1" tube clears high rear point of sight and where it starts to bell out to 40mm objective lens clears front end of sight. Medium rings were just to close if not touching. When I get home Friday I can post pictures if you want? That way you can see clearances let me know if you want pictures. Maybe I could have wife take and e-mail to me sooner but she would probably think I was up to buying more. ;D

Why do you remove the scope?

Scopes are legal to hunt with during ML season in GA, TN, and many other states, but some states such as Colorado - no scopes, no pelletized powder, no saboted bullets, etc.  I'll set the iron sights for conicals and set the scope for sabots (shoots sabots everywhere, but CO).  That way I never (hopefully) have to resight in my scope.

QR rings are nice to have...

Why do you remove the scope?

Utah has law no more than 1X scope when I hunt Missouri and playing around I put 3X9 on so I went with QR to switch them.

Why do you remove the scope?

Some remove it for soap and water cleaning.

I just use Windex.  I do keep my lens caps on, and clean from the breech.
