Ejector to extractor curiosity
« on: December 15, 2008, 07:43:09 AM »
I had a problem with my .30-06 ejector not working.  It would eject about one in four rounds, clean, dirty or indifferent..  I prefer extractors, so I went through the FAQs, printed the directions for the permanent conversion, which seemed simple enough.  Went down to the shop to try it.  The stone I had wasn't cutting a sharp right angle on the ejector, so I thought I'd stop, put it back in and try it before I messed it up.  Dropped in an unfired round, popped it open and it ejected.  I took it out back, fired several rounds of different manufacturers and they all ejected.  Is cutting that inside corner down some a possible cure for ejector problems?  I haven't put more rounds through it, but I will today or tormorrow to test it.  Any clues out there?

Pete

Update:  Fired 6 more rounds through it, one stuck and ejected on the second try.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

The Tip-Up Rifle method doesn't solve ejection problems, it only converts it to a spring extractor which only keeps a round from being ejected, it must be manually removed but is still powered by the spring which still can fail to work.. The only permanent cure for ejection problems is the factory style conversion using either the factory extractor, or a hybrid using the ejector claw and a small spring as shown at the bottom of the page below in the FAQs link.
