sooter's 6.5x444 improved
« on: December 14, 2008, 01:08:46 AM »
:o Buddy, I hope you don't mind me taking your subject to a new topic but what you & your "smith" have accomplished deserves "max" attention!  There is a lot of talent posting on this site but what you & your "smith" have done has to rank @ the pinnacle of "cool"!
You may know that some guys on another site have come up with their own 6.5/264 which they have
trademarked. It is a rimless cartridge & I think they have 7 rifles built for it.  The founder of the site wants
to take the project to a rimmed version based on the 444 Marlin case but they haven't gotten past necking
down experiments & it looks like they've "hit a wall". PERHAPS THEY FOUND OUT THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY
DONE IT !  ::)
I am primarily a white tail hunter & most of my shooting is based around that. The long success of the
6.5x 55 Swede & the "E.A. Brown" folks have sold me on the 6.5/264 bullet. I believe that the rimmed cartridge & the break action rifle are a " match made in heaven", so what could be better than the 6.5
matched up to the 444 & Incorporated into the Handi platform!  Someone may have already done
this but I haven't heard of it.  ;D I think you guys should "stroke your egos " a little bit & name your round, or maybe even " tm" it, but I know, your having too much fun shooting it!  ;)
Making the spacer & pillar bedding the forearm, etc., proves again that the Handi can be made very accurate, as you mentioned, & obviously your round matches up to it very well !
If you could find the time to tell us more about your creation & your experiences shooting it, post some
pictures  ;D ?, I'm sure I'm not the only one out here that would love to hear about it !  I wish you much
enjoyment in the use of your project & thanks for sharing it with us !  Jim  :)

Could lead to a whole line of calibers, 6.8x444?  ::)

I tried to search for whatever you are talking about, but I couldn't even find a member called sooter.

Do you have a link to the original thread?  I'd like to learn more.

Is this different from a 6.5 JDJ ?

Thanks Tim.

This sounds like a nice piece of ammo.  Sorry for my confusion, I realize now the difference from JDJ.  I thought all his rounds were based on a 444 case.  Now I know.
