S&W 624 simple question
« on: December 17, 2008, 04:12:46 PM »
Went to wipe down , clean, and generally maintain this revolver and the checkered cylinder release tab came off when I opened the cylinder.  It snaps back on OK, but it is too loose to trust to stay put now.  Is this something fixed by a spot of locktite, or should it stop by a 'smith?  Thanks.

Edit: I'd delete this if I could.  Now that I actually look a the thing, there is a thumbpiece nut that has come loose and is gone.  Appears I need another one of those. :-[

If you're talking about the release catch to open it there is a screw that holds it in place. Yeah they do loosen under recoil and yeah a dab of blue loctite helps.

I've had to use loctite on my ejector rod in my Model 28, because it still had the right hand thread and the cylinder rod would unscrew itselt during use, a problem S&W fixed two years after my gun was made, changing them to left hand threads. Anyway, haven't had a problem since.
