Hello everyone I'm sure this has been asked before but what loads have you folks used in your T/C wht mt carbine? And where is a good place to find a scope mount for this gun? I just ordered a mag spark for the rifle and was hopeing the hotter spark of the 209  would work on the new 777 or pyrodex powder. Also to let eveyone know when I ordered the mag spark he told me that his sons did not want to take over the shop so what mag sparks he has left is it.

Now you are talking...That is my all time, A#1, without a doubt, favorite gun for the deer woods, bar none..can you tell I like it..  Light and handy, fast to the shoulder, mine is a shooter as well.

There are 2 kinds of WMC, the early ones have a 1:20 twist, the later ones have a 1:38 and it makes a big difference for what it shoots.  Although I try to stay traditional in what I hunt with, I also shoot what shoots the best in a particular gun, don't want any wounded deer to go missing.  Mine is an early gun-(first one that hit the store way back)- and the 1:20 twist is way too fast for balls and it's real fussy about conicals so that leaves sabots.  The pink T/C Break-OWay sabots worked great but are discontinued, the black Knight sabots and 240 Hornady are also good-80gr. charge.  The 1:38 likes Conicals bettr than Sabots and balls with real light charges.  I know a guy from the range who shoots those hollow based Hornady Great plains very well with his.

Any scope mount for a Hawkin/Renegade will work, try T/C
I only use BP and #11s work good for that.

Real nice gun, mine has filled the freezer many times over, for many years.

You are #2 in line behind me for the flintlock version :)

Ive been looking for 2 years.  These guns were not that popular in cap lock, and even less so in flint.  I can not explain it, mine is already willed out to one of the guys I hunt with and another wants second dibs on it.  We are kidding but they really like it.  The flint has a slower twist, I know a guy from another board who has one and I can not pry it from his hands.

Mine is a little fussy about what you feed it and I think that turned alot of folks off to them.  Good luck in your search, if you happen to see 2, drop me a line and I will do likewise...like we are gonna find 2 of them, in my dreams.

Ya know, I shoot my flintlocks most of the year rarely shoot the WMC until the season gets near, but this chat with you has given me the bug.  I´m gonna drag it out and shoot it this weekend.

Good luck to both of you in your quest for a WMC in flintlock. I've only seen one and my husband owns it. He has pair of WMC's. Both .50 and one is caplock. His rifles have the 1:20 twist.

One thing that I didn't see mentioned that you should be aware of is that the white mountain carbine was notorious for breaking stocks. If your rifle does this you will notice it in the lock area. Half way through the production of this rifle they updated the tang with a bolt that runs through the entire stock and screws into the trigger/trigger guard. If your rifle sports this bolt you're good to go. If not, you should return your rifle to T/C for an updated tang bolt. Otherwise you will find that while shooting you will break the stock. Hubby did this with both of his rifles in the same spot with both.

Which caliber WMC do you have?

Mamaflinter,

He probably has no use for that dusty old WMC-flinter, probably time to send it off to a good home--mine... :D

My stock Broke, Deer Story time...

I shot BP in Revolvers and Antiquie leverguns for many years and some guys I met at the range convinced me to go ML'r hunting with them.  So I needed a gun and looked them over, Hawkins and Renegades were the main guns at that time (89-90).  I had reluctantly settled on a Renegade and went to the store to get one and sitting on the counter was this little sawed off WMC, first one they had recieved.  Since I had always hunted with shorter rifles and it handled so well, I bought it.  I quickly found out mine didn't like the Conicals of the day too much and the store owner showed me sabots, I gave them a try and bingo.  Now, my new found friends though my little gun was funny looking and tiny pistol bullets rediculous, I endured much kidding about them.  The Sunday before the ML'r opener we are shooting and my stock cracked, man did they lay it on.  I expressed mailed it to T/C and got it back the night before the last day of the season.  I took it out the next morning and shot a few, the sights were still on and I caught up to my buddies just as they were starting a drive.  They sent me on stand overlooking this small ravine, As I get to the edge of the woods I pause to cap my WMC and I hear a noise, I look to my right and here comes this doe someone had spooked, it almost ran me over.  I finish capping the gun swing with the doe and @ about 40 yards I not only drop it but knock it right off the edge of the ravine.  It was a big doe and the cliff was steep so it took a long rope and a truck to get it back up, nobody kidded me about my funnylooking gun or stupid bullets after that.  I was ML'r hunting for about 10 seconds when I dropped my first deer  , I'd rather be lucky than good anyday..

Funny thing, all of these guys are shooting Inlines/sabots now, some have been through a few, I'm still using that funny looking gun but nobody says anything at all about it, except that they'd like to try it..

The WMC that I am considering does NOT have the bolt running through the stock. About how long will it take for TC to repair it? Will the money they charge make my purchase a not-so-good deal?

The one I have on the way will need the bolt also. T/C said it would be 4 weeks after the gun gets to them there is no cost but shipping to do this but if the stock is already cracked they will replace it with the pa carbine stock and if you do not like this gun after you get it e-mail me at bowfish@bushnell.net and I will buy it from you.

Bowfish,
Thanks for the info. I'll contact TC on Monday and get things rolling. Will keep my eyes open for more WMC's. Probably a better chance finding one here in PA than in most places. I have your e-mail on file in the event that I find one.
