New 30/30 barrel
« on: December 14, 2008, 04:50:24 PM »
I got a new 30/30 barrel from Mo zone on the classified site.
It fit on my 223 handy receiver just like it was made for it. ( better lucky than good )
Well I had a few minits on Friday last to go out to the range,( before the cold and snow ) to try it out.
I have some old reloads for my son's lever action and I took a box along . 150 gr flt nose.
I don't remember the powder. A moderate load I am sure.
Well I bore sighted the world class 3-9 and shot a one inch group at 25 yards.
I adjusted to 1 inch low dead center and proceeded to put 5 straight shots in a paper plate at 100 yard's.
I am very impressed with this because the wind was blowing at about 35mph from left to right.
I think this will be a real shooter with a load work up. I like this little gun a lot no recoil at all with the reloads.
Best wishes for the holidays, Stan

The .30/30 is a must have for the Handi.  While I have 3 rifle barrels, the .30/30 stays on the SB2 frame until season is over.  Then I will play with the .357 or .44.

The .30-30 is indeed the ultimate Handi.

It is truly scary how accurate a Handi 30-30 is.  When I have it at the range, lots of guys want to try it out.  They are looking for a good kids deer rifle.  I love it when they can shoot tighter groups with the Handi over their rifle.  All I shoot is $9 a box 170 grain Federal Blue box ammo.
