Does anyone know anything about a gun marked "The New England" Damascus hammer type shotgun?

Nope, but a lot of gun makers, both domestic and foreign, would stamp their guns with any name the retailer wished so it can be pretty hard to track down some of them. A more recent example is how Wards marketed guns under the "western field" brand, Sears might market the same gun as a "Ted Williams" and Western Auto might call it a "Revelation", even though they were all made by Marlin.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
