Is prospecting on the upswing?
« on: February 13, 2010, 06:52:43 AM »
I would think that Gold prespecting and mining would be on the upswing with the price of gold and the poor economy.

I'm guessing it is too, but hard to tell, because, unless Detector manufacturers disclose a major increase in sales, we won't know. Doesn't seem to be a big increase in membership at the prospecting forums I visit, not on this site either.

It seems that everytime there's a spike in the price of gold everyone gets the idea to do some panning. The thing is they find out that it's a little bit of work and stop after one season.

I was raised and now live in the same gold minning town I did as a kid. My step dad worked in one of the local mines till they closed. In later years after I got out of the service I managed a Mini storage. Use to get a kick of the city people bringing all there new stuff up and storing it, then comming up on the weekends in the summer to show the local folks how to find gold.  ::) At the end of summer they would have all there trashed stuff in storage and want to get it out. Only prob they were a couple mos. behind on their rent. Old case no payee no gettie stuff. Have had them call the sheriff's dept. telling them I had threaten to sell their stuff. One of the S.O. would come out and I would show them the agreement they had signed, and pointed out the para. I had circled explaning about no payee I selle. Some of them just left their stuff and I trashed most of the JUNK they had left. My idea of gold panning is take my pan to the river, take my shoes off sit on a rock and enjoy my samminch and soda, and if I find color fine, and if not I've had a nice day outdoors,

Yea. But now they got that gold show on discovery network so have to see what that does for the hobbie. Don't really think it's going to help out all to much, but thats what I think.

I would love to get into it, but not sure there is much gold here in south central IL.

I like watching that show on discovery, sadly they are a bunch of morons that don't really know what they are doing, and I'm not even talking about the mining bit, but I'm sure they are going about that wrong as well.

Gold is were you find it. Theres gold in all the states, just depends on how much you want.  Yea, that show doesn't show any real prospecting.

I have been watching that show on Discovery. Those folks seem to have a double whammy against them, not only do they not know anything about mining. They are morons also.

I have a feeling that the guy the lease owner sent up to watch em will save their bacon in the end.
