A Morning To Remember
« on: August 27, 2003, 08:36:29 AM »
Had one of those yesterday morning.  Got on the water before the sun came up and the top water bite was going ok.  Nothing special to talk about BUT just after the sun came up I was pulling into a little bay and all of a sudden the water exploded with minnows trying to get away from a lot of something's.  Grabbed a rod the had a 1/4 oz. jerk bait in clown color and threw into the middle of the frenzy.  Before I could close the bail I had one on.  A nice 3 lb. large mouth.  Threw back out and the same results only the bass weighted 5 lb. 6 oz..  This went on for 30 to 40 minutes then just stopped like flipping a switch.  Total at the end was 13 bass from that little bay.  Smallest was the 3 lb. I caught first.  Largest was a 6 lb. beauty(by my scales) that I caught next to last.  I wish I would have taken the time to weight them all but I was having to much fun and didn't want to quit.  I continued to fish for another two hours and caught nothing else.  Still it was a blast while it lasted.  Lawdog

Skipper,

You may be more right than you think.  The waters of the coast of Calif. are from 4 to 8 degrees warmer than usual.  Fish like barracuda are showing up in numbers as far north as Bodega Bay and farther.  I got a old high school friend that's a commercial fisherman there and he is says tuna is showing up there and they are afraid that the warmer water will ruin the salmon fishing.  Can anyone say El Nino?   :(   Lawdog

I've checked with a Wooly Bear.  He was solid black.

We've had about 20 fogs this month, more than 1 in the middle of the afternoon.

And here you go talking about El Niner.   :)

Actually, these last 2 weeks have been the first summer weather we have had this year.  Its actually normal for it to be this hot this time of year, but I doubt we had more than 6 or 7 days in July over 90.  Normally, we'd have had that many over a hundred and close to 31 days over 90.

Its still hot/muggy here in Ct. its late this year but the spring never sprung so we just have summer weather now finally.  Its kind of tough fishing in some places the cover/weeds never grew so the bass are actually getting a break but we did have one cold spell come thru and the fish turned on there for a few days but its spotty again now and my favorite place shut down the bass are there but no topwater action or bottom action and maybe I should fish the third shift?? (at night?)  I'm convinced their still there but not feeding when I'm there in the early mornings (5am) the bite is over/passed.              BigBill

I never seen it this bad here not even the panfish are hitting now too so you know its tough??  But I'm still getting strikes and some hookups at one spot but not as many as i would like to have.  It has the be the weather when it gets good for a few days then the heat comes back after it rains then you catch zip!!!  You tornie guys who ever fish up here must have it bad too.
