.260 loads advice
« on: December 15, 2008, 09:34:52 AM »
I have a Ruger M77 MKII in 260 rem. It is black with a stainless barrel. What are some good loads for this gun? I have heard that the stainless barrels do not like any bullets over 140 gr. Does anyone have experence with the stainless barrel? What bullets, powders, primers ext are you guys shooting and getting good results?

I have a Ruger Compact Blue/Walnut in 260. I'm using the Barnes X 120 gr with H4350 powder with good results. I've shot two deer with it so far and recoil is light - I've been able to see the results of the hit thru the scope.

I was thinking of shooting 120gr nosler ballistic tips and IMR4350. Is anyone shooting IMR4350 in there .260? The reason I am wondering about the 4350 is I shoot that in my .300 win mag and would like to be able to use the same powder if possible.

Not a Ruger but IMR4350 under 120SMKs, 120 A-maxes, 120 Hot Cores and 129SSTs all shoot well in my rifle.

Good combination.  You can find your IMR4350 data for the 260 Rem here: <<http://www.imrpowder.com/PDF/Hodgdon%20Basic%20Manual.pdf>>

My first thought was that 4350 might be a little slow for 120 gr. bullets in the 260.  But that is without checking the manuals.  After Steve's post and thinking about it a little more I agree it is probably a good match.  I used REL22, which is slower, with 100 gr. bullets in the .243.  Use the manuals though.   ;)

Lyman shows N-150 as the potential best powder for the 120gr Nosler BT.
Sierra also chooses N-150 for the most acccurate powder in 120 and 140 gr for their bullets

If the 4350 is ok and shoots a pretty good group I am happy I use the gun to deer hunt with only so It doesn't have to shoot there eyes out.
