Bought a 6.5mm TCU barrel...
« on: December 19, 2008, 01:38:44 PM »
I saw a deal that I could not live without. So I bought a used 14" 6.5mm TCU Contender barrel today. I should obtain it sometime around or after Christmas.

This caliber will be a first for me so I would like to glean as much information from people with knowledge in this area. Any advice on loading? What bullets you like? How well has it performed on game for you?

I thought about using it on coyote here in southern New England. I have been looking at some of the load data and it is an interesting little wildcat. Any information would be welcomed.

I bought a used 6.5 TCU last year and its a gem of a cartridge.  Easy to form..easy on powder and easy on your hand.  I had a problem with the barrels scope mount screw holes..they were stripped.  Had to send it to EABCO to have it drilled and tapped for a larger screw!  Mine really likes the 95 grain V-Max bullet.  Shoots well with bullet weight up to the 140 grainers.  I haven't taken any game with mine yet, but have loaded 100 and 120 grain Ballistic Tips for whitetails, if I ever get to go.  Mine really likes Varget.  I was shooting some really good groups before the scope came loose!!

I havent shot my 6.5TCU that much up to now. My barrel is a 13" OTT Step-Up barrel. It is a full 1" fluted barrel topped off with a Burris 3X12 scope on a G2 frame wearing furniture I made. The barrel has a short throat as I planned on only shooting the lighter bullets for target and varmint. So far what powders and bullet combos I have tried show some very good accuracy potential. The 6.5 is a great caliber and the reason I short throated this barrel I fill I have better choices for deer hunting, like my 6.5JDJ, 6.5X55Sweede, 6.5X284Win.

The wood is fancy English Walnut. The forearm made so the barrel rides on top to show off the flutes on this beautiful OTT barrel.
