35 Rem Handi-rifle
« on: December 19, 2008, 08:01:22 AM »
I've heard reports/rumors that Remington is bringing out a Handi in 35 remington. Anybody seen one yet or know when it might hit the dealers shelves?

It was canceled due to lack of distributor interest.  :-\

I included that caliber on my letter to them asking for the Hornet to be put back in the line up.  And of course, they will listen to my request. ;) :-[ :-\  DP

I guess with the economy so rotten, the dealers are wary of overstock and not trying anything new.  It's a shame.  I think it'll be a while before we see any new calibers or they bring back some of the old ones.  All we can do is be patient and wait and see.  I'd sure like to see the Mags come out, and the Whelen, and the 7.62X39 etc. etc. etc.   This is making it darned hard to be a true Handiholic. :'( :'(

It's still possible the 35 Rem will become available if distributor interest increases,  production was scheduled for October to fill a need for the new Mississippi .35 cal min and larger primitive deer season. Unfortunately, due to the transition from Gardner to Ilion, the production did not happen in time for the 2008 season and was been dropped from the schedule for 2008. Due to very little interest in this caliber beyond that in Mississippi, it will not be rescheduled for 2009 unless distributors place significant orders, and that would depend on how many of you tell your dealers you want it so they can pass the info on the their distributor, same goes for the Handi-mags.  ;)

If anyone wants a 35 Remington Handi, the 357mag or Max can be rechambered and work very well, MSP ret and I both have one, they shoot great, and an extractor barrel would be an even easier conversion than our ejector barrels. The SB2 frame would easily handle super 35 Remington loads too, it would make a nice MS primitive deer round.  ;)

I really don't want to sacrifice a 357 barrel, but may have to. :'(  DP

Get another one!! ;D I used a good shooting 357Max barrel for my 35 Rem, then bought another 357mag barrel.

Wouldn't the performance of the .357 Max and the .35 Remington be so close that it would hardly be worth the bother?

I realize that under normal circumstances a .35 Remington can be taken close to the Whelen levels but that's also quite an overlap isn't it?

As much as I like the .35 Remington and as good as it is it has never really generated that many sales for the gun makers who chamber it. I can sure see why the distributors are reluctant to order them.

Dunno if you're talking pressure or velocity levels but either way no it can't. I guess you could load it up to the pressure level but it is certainly NOT intended to be and you'll never get even remotely close to Whelen velocity from it.

Loaded to the equal pressures, the 35 Remington still has an advantage due to it's larger case capacity, 50.8 gr. water for the 35 Rem, 32.7gr for the Max. But a rechamber to 358 Win or 35 Whelen would be an even better choice if you want more for your rechamber $$.  ;D
