T7 FFg vs. FFFg. What's the difference?
« on: October 24, 2008, 06:07:50 PM »
I fell into another hole at the store this week....I bought a new and different bottle of T7 (FFFg) than I was using (FFg). I read the label and found a difference in velocities for various loads. Is there much of a difference? What is the difference? I have a first production Encore ProHunter 209x50 (SS), using 250 gr. Shockwave Bonded bullets.......What are your preferences or experience with the two variations of T7 powder? Your comments are appreciated.

I use them both... 2f in my inlines and 3f in the sidelocks...

The basic difference is that 3f will rise to peak power quicker and it will burn out faster.... it will create a little more pressure but for a shorter period of time.  Then in most guns you will get a small increase in velocity.  I use it in the sidelocks because it is easier to ignite in cold weather than is 2f...

One other thought - I really think it buns a little cleaner also.

My last point when I run out of 2f I probably will continue with 3f until BH comes down in price or T7 goes up in price.
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

My one in-line, a Lyman Mustang, likes 3f T7 a little better than 2f.  Never got around to shooting T7 in any of my sidelocks.  I agree with Sabotloader, the 3f burns cleaner in my gun.

The FFFg definitely burns cleaner,  in all of my guns I tried it in, there was less powder fouling than using FFg.  Right now I'm using FFg instead just because I bought 4 cans on clearance last year for $8 a can.  Once it's gone, unless I find another good deal on it, I'm going back to FFFg.  I'd like to try the BH209, but it's too much $$ for me.

Guess I'm the odd man here. My Omega and Black Diamond both have less fouling with 2 than 3f T7. Wierd I know...Accuracy with both is comparable, but 3f has the velocity advantage, but another 10gr of 2 brings it back up. That would make 3f alittle more economical, wich is not unimportant. If you shoot lighter charges or a shorter barrel, 3f is your powder.Cant really go far wrong with either though.
