A couple years ago I bought a Rem 700 Mtn rifle in 243 Win from Gander Mtn. Mine is a limited run for Gander that features a black synthetic stock, which isn't a regular catalog item. The best part was I got it from the clearance rack for ... $350. And, Rem had a $50 rebate going on, so I got it for about $300 once the smoke cleared.
This model has the worst trigger of seven model 700's that I own. It will most likely get an aftermarket trigger some day.
Accuracy of mine is about 0.75 inch for five shots at 100 yards. I shoot an 80 grain Berger varmint bullet load made for my Weatherby Varmintmaster. So, I'd suggest trying factory ammo that weights around 80 grains.
