(Pics) New wood for an old beater!
« on: December 23, 2008, 02:58:41 PM »
I had this pc. of Tiger Maple taking up space in the shop so I decided the 22Hornet Turkey Thumper needed new wood. After I started removing wood from the grip a brown srteak jump out of the wood, oh well caracter right. After all this is a working gun, just an ole beater. More grain will pop out with a few more coats of finish.

The grain that popped out isn't "pithy" is it?  If not, it's just too cool!  I love to see accidents like that!

I turned a small cedar bowl on my lathe once.  Just as I was turning in some decorative rings in the side of the bowl, a silver streak popped out.  I stopped the lathe and found that I had found a lead bullet stuck into the wood!  I though it looked interesting so I left it.

I donated that wooden bowl with the bullet in it to a charity auction, they got $200.00 bucks for it!
