32-20 Handi Barrel, only one in the free world!
« on: December 23, 2008, 04:52:24 PM »
Just joking probably, I finally got so tired of staying inside that I went out in the snow today and sand blasted the 32-20 stub project, then into the parkerizing tank and there it is, very nice looking barrel if I do say so.  Every time I parkerize something I am amazed at how nice it turns out and how easy it is to do it.  Larry

You know, it really is easy.  You do not have to follow any standards, you make up all the parts to fit each other, they do not have fit anything else, and you only have to make one.  Hard would be to make a thousand of them with parts that will interchange.  Larry

I think you have got your method down pretty well. It gets easier each time you do it - at least it seems like it. Very nice looking barrel and a nice cartridge you did. As always, Good Luck to you Larry and Good Shooting

Larry,  Very nice looking ! I have a couple of questions to ask about parkerizing.  When you put your barrel in the tank, do you somehow plug the bore and chamber or do you parkerize "everything" ?  Also what is the highest temperature that the part gets to during the process.  I am looking forward to making a tank and being able to parkerize barrels and parts because cold blue just isn't durable enough.    Thanks,    Jedman

I do plug the bore, I use the expanding rubber plugs that have a screw in them, screw the screw in and it tightenes up and expands the rubber.  I have rubber corks that fit the chamber.  The solution never gets over 185 degrees F.  Larry

Very nice looking!

Sooo .... How well does it go bang?  And print on paper?

And what were the final specs?  Length?  Weight?  Etc.    I'm interested in trying the .32-20, altho I might do it in an Encore.

That sure looks nice. Now just box it up and send it to me and I will test fire it for ya  ;D ;D ;D
If I ever get out of the hole I am going to have to look into trading for a lathe and mill so I can do some of those neat things you do.
