Curious about Savage 99DL Series "A" Rifle
« on: December 26, 2008, 11:56:21 AM »
I inherited this rifle from my dad and wanted to know about when and were it was made, possibly if it is very valuable for insurance purposes

Here are some pictures:

The serial number is listed as: B2633xx

On the receiver, it has exactly:

Savage 99DL
Series A
7

it is a .308 with a 3-9x Redfield scope with a Redfield base

The top of the barrel says: "Savage Arms, Westfield, Mass USA"

Thanks!

You may want to repost your question on the Savage topic board, but I believe that the "A" series of the 99DL is one of the more recent ones (not an older antique collectable one.)

I think that looking at the rifle, and the used scope and mounts, you are looking at $900 tops as a replacement value. (In order words, you could replace it for $900).

In the Northeast USA, that's a $500-$550 rifle, due the the non-issue recoil pad and older-styled scope.

Ranger,

Interesting.  The rifle looks to be in great shape.  Here in the mid-Atlantic states (VA), you couldn't touch that rifle for less than $650.  The new recoil pad would be viewed as a plus, not a minus, because the rifle is a shooter, not a collector.

Trying to replace the mounts/rings with all steel mounts/rings  would run what?  Eighty to a hundred with tax included?

Assuming the scope is in good shape and clear, a variable Redfield would go for at least $110 at a show.

So, maybe I should have said about $800 to $850 to replace?

The $500  figure  is probably what you would get for the rifle and scope from a dealer at a show down here.  But, you couldn't buy it for that, at least not down here.  (Marlin levers are far far more common down here.)
