Chain-firing thunder mugs

We tried at all times to keep Ed's head NOT over any of the thunder mugs but it was difficult.  After this, I'd recommend that anyone who has to fire thunder mugs for more than one shot, put the device on a table or chair or other raised object,for loading, so it is at a better angle to keep your head out of the line of fire, if the mug is constructed so you can lift it by a handle and keep it at a safe antle when loaded.  If there's no way to handle it conveniently, then you are stuck with loading it in its firing position.  Putting it up on a stump or other raised platform that can be used to fire it also may be the best idea.  Working it when it is on the ground makes it too easy to get your head in the way, as we saw when making this video.

John, You do need a linstock fo rthis work.  Actually Ed needs a linstock since he has to do all the work.

Quickmatch (blackmatch inside of paper tubes) might be a bit safer for chaining them together.

The "start" end of the quickmatch would have some regular cannon fuse in it (just like the powder trail did) for time delay. With a powder trail, I would be a bit afraid of the sparks from the fuse igniting the trail way earlier than planned (been ther, done that).

Pretty cool video though, I really liked the shawdow puppets in the beginning

it looks a lot like some swizz and austrian thunder mugs I have seen .
is it wrought iron in it ??
those I have seen have been hexagonal or octogonal and all in wrought iron .
and the lack of base or any diameter change along the whole barrel also is the same
so I would guess that yours could be of an central european origin .
but as usual , thats only an guess

That's possible, I will look at it again and see if I can see any "grain" (as in wood.)  That's about the only way I can tell W.I. from cast iron.
