16ga Riverside ????

Have an old 16ga Riverside single shot. There are no numbers on it, so I don't really know how old it is. The hammer does not go all the way down when the trigger is pulled.  I also noticed that the firing pin is loose in its place and moves back and forth at will.  The gun seems to be in good shape and I would like it to be functional.  Are these things I can fix or is the gun just too old to find parts.

Have you tried fireing a round in it?  Lots of the old single shots just had a spring loaded stop for the hammer, when it falls it does go clear in and hit the fireing pin.  The fireing pin may have never had a return spring on it, just gets pushed back when you load a round.  Larry

Thanks.  I was hoping for an answer like that.  No, I haven't tried firing a shell through it.  It's the only 16ga I have.  I will need to get some shells.  Thanks

Hold your finger over the fireing pin hole at the standing breach and fire the hammer, my bet is the end of the pin will give you a good bite.  Larry

 Riverside was a trade name by J Savage, probably made 1920-1940.
Most of these old single barrels have never been cleaned inside. You may want to put solvent or better yet break free in the fp hole. Work it through a few times and put oil in it. Most of the time that is all that is needed. Don't worry about runoff . point the barrel up with the butt on the ground. The excess will clean and lube the internals. If you have to go further just take the fp out and true it up knocking off the burrs. This schematic is for the savage 107 b no changes to internals. Yours most likely is a stevens 107.

By the way the other two fellows are right. What I'm looking at is a misfire or worse yet delayed fire when in the field.

Riverside was also the Montgomery Ward product line of most durable goods. My guess would be it's an Iver Johnson Champion, but by the Riverside name.
