Need action bar for 16ga Rem 58 Sportsman
« on: December 29, 2008, 04:58:31 PM »
Not having any luck finding this part. I believe the same part may work from 20 and 12 ga also. I tried to have it welded but the welder messd it up. Probably would not have held anyway. From the illustration in Numrich I believe I need the new style. The action bar must have been a weak spot on this model because everybody I've called is out. Thanks alot.   greer

Numrich shows that they have a new style action bar but does not show an illustration. Does anyone know the difference between the old and new style action bar. It lists new style action bar with stud. Thanks again for any help. greer

I found it. Found a source on Remington's list of parts dealers. The business is called "58 Sportsman". No website. Evidently he specializes in the 58.  greer

First shotgun my dad bought me was a 16ga Sportsman 58.  They had just come out.  Carried it a many of mile then finally broke the forearm.  Remington sent me a replacement but it didn't match and was not checkered.  By then it had developed feeding problems.  Sold it for $50 about 30 years ago.

Many but NOT all parts on the old 58 are interchangeable with those on the 870. The 58 is in effect basically a semiauto 870 or since it came first perhaps it's more appropriate to say the 870 is a pump version of the 58. Barrels are completely interchangeable but to function in semiauto mode you need to drill the hole for gas to go thru. You can plug the hole on a 58 barrel and it works perfectly on an 870 or don't plug it but then gas gets inside the fore arm.

I'm not sure if the part asked about here would interchange or not and since a source has been located it really matters not but for future reference those two guns have many common parts and the 870s are still being made.
