Old, out of date 35 rem.
« on: November 30, 2008, 12:50:16 PM »
Well, she may be old, but she sure did a bang-flop job on a nice fat mulie doe for me yesterday.  Had to try the Leverevolution ammo, so took the 1956 RC with me hunting.  Had sighted it in like they said on the box and missed a couple, so put it right on at 100 yd and next shot was meat.  Next year maybe the 1952 30-30, or maybe I will take the 38-55 CB out to play instead.  Maybe both, I had 7 tags this year and filled them all, so they can share.  DP

;D, My doe was to heavy for me to lift into the back of the 6 wheeler, had to use a rope and drag the front in and loop it over a stake, then jump out and lift the back end in.  She weighed more than the 4x4 mule deer buck I got the day before, him I drug into the back of the 6wheeler by his horns.  All my deer this year were fatter than I have seen in a very long time, even the buck wasn't wore down much.  DP

I luv my old .35 remington. It hits where you aim and drops what you aim at.  I have used it on hogs ,deer and several coyotes. I sighted in on a Emu but passed on it never did figure out where it came from.
Deer hunting is mostly fun then you shoot one and it turns to work.

You actually killed something with a .35 Remington? I heard that since the advent of all the short fat magnums, classics like the .35, .250 and .300 Savage, the .30-30 etc no longer could kill anything. ;D

Federali, you sound just like my gunsmith.  He's a great old gentleman and a good friend, but every now and then I like to get him going on "shortmags".  H

I'm bettin that all of the short fat mags die long before your old gentlemen friend. :-)

Regards, Mannyrock

P.S.- OK, well maybe the .300 WSM (the ONLY fat mag that made any sense) will outlive your friend.

Congrats on filling all those tags.  The 35 Rem has become my favorite and I shoot it out of a 336 CS and my Contender super 16..It took 2 whitetail this season.

I'll tell him you said that, next time I go to check on a flatband model 94 he's fixing for me.  I got that 30-30 as a bargain because someone drilled it for a sidemount--one sloppy hole.  He's plugging it, and will replace the beat-up stock.  Then I'll keep the rifle because near as I can tell it may have been manufactured in 1944-the year I was born.  The old boy will go on another tirade when I tell him about your remark about 300WSM, and will do his damndest to outlive that cartridge too, out of spite.  Good thing--as long as there are shooters we need good gunsmiths.

Regards, and happy new year to all---JLChucker
