Got out today with the new 917. Just had a little time to play while thinning out some trees on the father-in-law's land. Put a Simmons Master Series Pro Hunter 3-10x44 on it, and tried the V-max 17gr and the CCi 17gr hollowpoints.
As usual (in the 3 different HMR's I've had) the V-Max outshot the CCi by a wide margin.
At 60 yds, the CCi's were going under an inch, not too bad, since I wasn't using a bench, just shooting sticks while sitting.
First group with the V-Max's, 3 shots were in one hole, the called flyer was about 1/8" out, too bad I didn't have the calipers with me to measure it. I estimated it at around .25" center to center, maybe a bit less. Best 60 yd group I've shot with anything. I quit right there in homage of that group.
Later on, went 3 for 3 on squirrels, including one at 100 yds offhand. Got that one through the shoulders, still basically tore it in half. Glad that the F-I-L was there to witness that one. Defintely my best offhand shot of all time.
Yes, this rifle can shoot.
