I read in my American Hunter today about the new Mossberg lever action in 3030...Seems to be a pretty good shooter. U got my hands on one a couple week's ago at a local gun shop.. I didnt care for the side play in the lever when you drop it..But over all I was pretty impressed with the fit and finish... And in the magazine it stated that .22 will be available soon.

My first gun was a Winchester 94/22.  I got it 37 years ago and still treasure it.
When my son turned 13, they no longer produced the Winchesters.
I bought him the Henry. I wish I had bought him the Marlin.
When I was cleaning the gun with Birchwood Casy Gun Scrubber, it peeled the paint right off the receiver. That never happened with my Ruger 10/22. I suppose I should have read the directions. They were good at the factory and re-did the paint job at no cost and I no longer use the Gun Scrubber on that gun. I do wish I had bought him the Marlin.

Thanks for the heads up on the Henry. I have had one or about four years and love it. a good shooter. Don't use Gun scrubber, My painted finish is still there. I would like a Marlin, but the Henry just plain, shoots! She always goes to camp for some fun! Glad to see Henry stood behind it. There are so many chemical cleaners on the market that you have to be careful. Even with traditional blued steel. I got it for around 150 bucks, walmart.. had a good scratch in the stock from some careless fellow. Manager hemed & hawed for 15 minuits until he accepted my offer! Happy with Henry!

Henry Golden Boy is the only way to go.Henry's customer service is way above what Marlin,Winchester or Browning ever hope to be.

The great thing about living in America is that we can choose what we want.  I am glad you are happy with your Henry's, but I wouldn't trade ten of them for my 9422M.

I agree with you... Favorably comparing the quality of a Henry, to a Marlin 39 or a Winchester 9422 , is impossible in the real world.

However, if you have a Henry, be happy with it, as you own it...

My favorite is the M39 carbine, why Marlin quit making this sleek litte rifle and
stuck with the one with the heavier barrel and the huge oversize stock is a mystery.
I agree on the blue Henry with the plastic sights, piece of crap.
I've had the 9422 and the BLR, both good but I still like the above better.

I am a Marlin Lever man my self, I currently own a 1895 45-70, 444P and a 1894 44 Mag. I have owned over 20 different Marlin Lever actions.

I was going to get a Marlin Model 39, but I went to the gun shop, not looking to buy a another gun, but I seen a nice great looking Winchester Model 9422 sitting there with a Leupold 4X RF scope on it with a rear sight in a bag. Price was $450.00. That is a deal within itself. The gun was a consignment gun, so I asked the gun dealer if the guy would take $400 ash right now. He called the guy and he said he would take my offer. I did the paper work and brought home my new toy.

Man it is a beautiful gun, it has the gloss finish stock with very little wear. Rifling is very clean. Over all the gun in is near new condition.

But I still want a Marlin Model 39,, maybe soon.

Neat read.

I have had Marlins and Winchesters in 22LR and both were very nice.  Sold them when funds were needed.  Now own 2 Henrys, one 22LR and one 22Mag, both shoot as well as either the Marlin or Winchester and run smoother, are lighter and good for the $.  The LR was a Christmas present from my Wife, she paid $119.00 for it on sale about 3 years ago.  It's had thousands of rounds thru it, with 4 of my kids going with me to shoot, we always take 1,000 rounds with us and never quit till out of rounds.  The mag has had over 1,000 rounds thru it and no problems with it either.  For the money they are a good buy.  Will I buy another Marlin or Winchester, if the price is right yes, if not someone else can have it.  DP

I got the lever action 22 itch a little while back myself.
Bad thing was, I didn't like any of them.. Not that they were not
nice rifles, they just did not feel right to me.. I then found a well used Ithica
model 49 single shot and absolutely love it. looks like a lever gun but is a martini action.
It is all what you like I guess.

I just gave my son a 39A that was bought new in 1957, this gun was carried in the pickup every day and on the farm tractor in the dirt and dust. I can't
even imagine how many rabbits and coyotes it has killed, about 1-2 times a
year we washed it out with kerosene, never broke it down. stock never got in the way.
I have looked at henrys and can't imagine owning one, might be nice in the gun cabinet or if you pet it and pamper it but if you want to use one get a MARLIN
