I'm 1911 browsing again
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:43:24 AM »
I'm thinking of getting another 1911  a new or used one maybe.  I noticed that AO doesn't manufacture the better 1911 with the larger sights.  I did notice the Thompson does offer the better 1911 but it ain't so cheap.  Whats a good 1911 with the better sights and a tad better quality going for nowadays?  Which one?  Lets say around $500 to $750 range.

What do you think??  Is there another one that i should look at?

I just missed another norinco a while back.

How about an entry level Kimber? My friend has one and it shoots really well. I went out and bought a Raptor after trying his (a little out of the price range you gave) and it is also a nice pistol.

I bought a rock island and trijion sights and have less than 500 into one that shoots accurately and has yet to fail and even feeds semiwad cutter reloads reliably. I sent it to the parump nv address for the sights install and never had to move the sights after it came back.

Any thoughts on trying used? I believe colt is the only 1911 that hangs near original price when bought used. I favor Kimber. Most of the time you can get them for 1/3 of original price.

I finally broke down and bought a colt. After four .45's I figured the collection would not be complete until I had a Colt .45.

You probably know a lot more about them than I do. Just a tip though, new or used get the one with the least barrel play for the price you want to spend. I only own Springfield and Kimber but have heard very good reviews on Armscore manufactured ; C Daly, Taurus, RI
