New Lab Puppy on the way
« on: April 02, 2008, 03:16:52 PM »
I will be getting a new Pup approx 2 months from now. As some of you know I lost my yellow Lab pup to Parvo Virus a few months ago. My new pup is going to be either Chocolate or Black and its parents are both Certified master Hunters so I have high hopes. here is a pic of the parents.

Male

Female

I can't wait to get him and start training him as we have a training group here that helps you train your pups. I will post pics of him as soon as he has his eyes open.

My lab puppy will be 2 in about 3 months.  Last night I let him out to do his business and he finally came back home about 3:30 AM.  This is the first time he's done this.   He generally stays out for an hour or so exploring but he must have found an animal to follow and took some time to find his way back home.  I'm glad he found his way home and probably can now do so anytime.  Anyway, I've become extremely attached to him and was up with worry until he came back.  I was reminded how I felt the first time my children didn't show up on time and came home hours later than normal.  It is spring here and the black bear are just about ready to leave the winter dens.  Several years ago I lost a black lab that wanted to play with a black bear sow and she killed him.  This is one of the detriments living in Alaska's bush.  It is nice to see real widelife in natural habitat, but must remember these animals are wild and not afraid of man.  One never knows for sure exactly what situation he is going to get into and the dog must learn some of the same.  I sure hope he learns fast and seems to, but he is older now and expanding his territory.
Greg lost his battle with cancer last week on April 2nd 2009. RIP Greg. We miss you.

dogs have "windows" that open and close when the window is open is the time to train them for the activity you want them to learn once that period pass they will not learn the skill

Is there anything that made him stand out to you over the other one?

Yes he is very sure of himself, out going, and is the first to come when called among other traits that I look for in a puppy.

I lost my Lab "Sam" 4 months ago.  Had to put her down, brain turmors.  I got her when she was 6 weeks old and had her in the family for 14 years and 9 months.  One day I will get another Lab.  Your pup looks great and will make a wonderful friend and companion.

Sorry to hear about your loss it is never easy to lose a longtime companion, best friend and hunting partner.  Give yourself a little time and get a new pup thier is nothing better for healing your heart than a new Lab Puppy.

Heres my new pup with his first Duck
