Goex sold!
« on: January 04, 2009, 05:51:35 PM »
Hi all, I was just reading a post at another site about Goex being being sold.

This is a C&P

A friend from Hodgdon Powder Company called to tell me that as of this morning they became sole owner of Goex. As of this coming Monday January 5th, Tom Shepard, President of Hodgdon, will also assume the title of President of Goex.

Hodgdon plans to leave manufacturing of Goex where it is but to promote sales aggressively and to improve distribution.

Hodgdon seems to be nearing a strangle hold on powder manufacture and distribution in the US. I'm not sure if that's good or bad but it makes me a bit uncomfortable. So long as they remain healthy it could mean good things I suppose but it also means less competition which generally means higher prices.

What really bothers me tho is what if they fail or if some antigun outfit buys them out. In one fell swoop they could just about shut down shooting and hunting in the US.

I'm not real comfortable with all these mergers and acquistions going on that are reducing the number of different independent firms related to firearms and ammo.

Good point!  My avatar may only be that.
