150 grains of pyrodex in OE?
« on: January 26, 2009, 03:42:31 PM »
I keep hearing that 3 pellets of pyrodex is not safe because it is a much hotter than 3 pellets of 777.  Should I be worried?  Or is my OE .50 cal up to the task of shooting 3 pellets of pyrodex?  To be honest, I cant tell the difference between shooting 2 or 3 pellets.

I just want to use my Nikon Omega BDC which says to use 250 grain bullet and 150 grains of powder.

you were told wrong

3 pyrodex pellets ( 50 grains per pellet) are safe as are the triple 7 (50gr pellets).

Just be aware that triple 7 offers the triple 7 MAGNUM pellets which you use TWO pellets and it equals 150 grains.

120gr Loose triple 7 is equal to 150 grains blackpowder/ pyrodex 2f. Maybe this is what you heard and mixed up with the pellets?

I honestly think you are just wasting money with the pellets. Especially 3 pellets! 150gr mag loads is just a gimmick to sell expensive pellets.

Buy some loose pyrodex RS and you wont need more than 100 grains ( By volume) to get the job done.

I would lose the pellets and go to loose.  It's way better IMO.

For many years I used Pyrodex pellets.  Started with 3 pellet loads and found that they were not needed.  Killed a lot of deer and dozens of hogs using two Pyrodex pellets and the 240 grain .430 XTP bullet.  My CVA StagHorn shoots the 240 grain XTP to the same point of aim using either 100 grains of Pyrodex RS or two Pyrodex pellets.  The gun was loaded at home with 100 grains of RS.   My reloads were the pellets.
