45 Colt & 454 Casull
« on: January 06, 2009, 03:48:43 PM »
I want to load the 454 casull.  I already have a set of RCBS 45 colt carbide dies.  Will these work with the extra length of the casull, or do I need 454 dies?  If I do need new, do I need all 3, or just a sizer?

I have both, have never tried sizing 454 with a colt dies because I brought some 454 brass and they came with a set of 454 dies. I read on this sight some where that the colt dies won't size the 454 brass all the way to the base. that said, I'd think all you would need is a sizing die for a 454. good luck

if your sizing them for a ruger they will probably work fine. At least for the first firing. I doubt they will size down enough for a fa chamber though.

Per RCBS and LYMAN, the 45LC dies will work fine for both.
