a question for all you .308 bull barrel owners
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:30:33 PM »
I'm going to be sending mine and my daughters receivers in for some barrel fitting. I'm going to get a 7-08 for hers, and I've been looking at the .308 bull barrel awfully hard for mine. Those of you that own one, how do you like them? Are they that much better than the standard contour? I will be shooting factory ammo, what kind of accuracy can I expect out of it? At $12 difference, I was thinking that the bull barrel would be worth the extra cost. Input appreciated. Thanks guys. ;)

Also, when you send your frame in do they charge one fee for shipping with multiple barrels, or do you have to pay additional shipping for each barrel?

Shipping and fitting charges are indicated on the order form which can be found in the FAQs, $15 fitting is per barrel, $15 shipping is per firearm.

THE BULL IS THE BEST CHOICE!!!
i have shot over 30 rounds back to back with no barrel droop.
and it was 78degrees ambient!!!!
it held poa/poi the whole time.
you can't get that no-where else...

as for accuracy, its dead on @ 100yrds.  at least on my shooter......
good luck, i hope your pleased like i am!!

i prefer bull barrels over factory contour because of the accuracy benefits.  i am going to shorten mine down to 18" or 16" for less weight, added regidity and more portability.  read a few articles on sniper training courses where they shot 18" barrel vs. 24" +.  no accuracy difference and only a few 100 fps velocity drop.  at the ranges we hunt that wont make a difference and since my rifle isnt a military sniper i dont think i will be making any 800 yd shots any time soon.

Jon D.

I've shot about 35 rounds through my survivor .308.  Shoots nice 1" groups.  I wouldn't mess w/ cutting down on my bull bbl.  A .308 performs best at 20".  Anything shorter than that and velocity really starts dropping off, and the .308 begins to start looking more like a 30/30 out of a 16" bbl...

Good luck :D

I can't say for the bull, but I have the standard contour and it is accurate. I was working with some ammo that I had for quite awhile and while sighting in @ 50 yards I thought that I had missed on my 2nd and 3rd shots.  Upon checking the target I had 1 ragged hole that was perferated 3 times.
It'll do more than enough for the 'yotes around here.

I hope that you are happy with the bull and let us know - I'm leaning towards either a 22-250 or 223 bull barrel myself.

Take Care

Buy the bull barrel...I have several hundred rounds through mine and love it. You should be able to expect at least MOA with factory rounds. My rifle was even in my truck when I wrecked it and the rifle slammed into my dash. It did not affect the accuracy at all I even have a deer in the freezer to prove it.

bull barrel.  Mine is dead accurate at 100 yards with factory 150 grain bullets.  And I have often shot a 20 round box with not point of impact change.
