.35 Winchester data for guidance in a .358 JDJ?
« on: August 23, 2003, 03:09:27 PM »
I received my .358 JDJ 14" barrel today, and am considering some different loads.

I'm particularly interested in loads with 4198 or 3031.

Looking through some reference material,  it seems the .35 Winchester has a little less than 2% more case capacity than a .358 JDJ.

Would data for the .35 Winchester, such as is found in Pet Loads, be valid as a guide for the .358, reduced a bit to reflect the reduced volume?

I would suggest you stick to the proven loads JD has developed and tested for it. The Contender is not a lever action rifle and isn't as strong as some seem to think it is.

You won't find a powder that produces more from it than AA2520 is max performance is what you seek. If it isn't then JD has lighter loads listed also. Use them.
