Yes, according to Mossberg, within guage and capacity.  I also replied to the question on another forum.  Of course you can buy a maverick shotgun for the price, plus a few bucks, compared the price of a mossberg barrel.  If you can find one at a good price or have one lying around you are ahead of the game.

I bought a Maverick 88 that doesn't work.  I was wondering if a Mossberg barrel was installed, thus the malfunction.
It seems that when you run the slide/bolt forward it goes too far forward and out of battery.  When the trigger is pulled it drops the hammer half way. If you release the trigger and pull again it will finally hit the firing pin, but then the whole bolt rides forward.
I have had the gun apart 4 times and the bolt apart twice.  I have not taken the trigger group apart as everything seems to work with that.   With the barrel off, I can push back on the bolt and fire the gun.  Everything works as I feel the firing pin strike my thumb.  With the barrel on there is nothing to keep the bolt in place and it "floats" forward from the hammer strike almost 1/4".

If anybody has any suggestions, I'm all ears (or eyes in this case).

When you buy the very cheapest version of any product made you must expect that some times it's not gonna work as it should. I'd suggest you find out if they have any customer service or not. I kinda doubt it.

First thing is to go to Mossberg's web site you will find Maverick's there.  They are built put together whatever in Eagle Pass Tx..  There contact info is listed.  I know you probably did but make sure you put the thing back together correctly.  When you re-assemble make sure the elevator, shell carrier, is put in first and make sure the shell stops are placed in there recesses properly.  Also the bolt is in two pieces, the bottom pierce is the bolt slide, notch to the back.  On the slides that are attached to the fore stock make sure the bolt slide which has notches are placed in the correct notches on the slides.  Also make sure the barrel is firmly in the receiver.  However it sounds like you have a serious problem with the trigger group etc. give Maverick a call.

Swapped out trigger groups today w/ a friend's 500.  The Maverick goes bang when it should.  I think somebody got into the trigger group and tried to modify it to shoot when you hold the trigger and pump the action.  I'll call customer service tomorrow.
