ring height
« on: January 16, 2009, 01:32:02 PM »
I have a 12" MGM 30-30AI barrel on order for a new G2 frame.  I purchased a Bushnell Trophy 2x6x32 scope to mount but am not clear on what height rings to order. This is my first TC pistol.  ??? I am interested in input about brand, height and if one set or two is needed.  Thanks, Gary

Gary,  I believe that a set of medium height rings would allow you enough clearance between the eye piece and hammer.  As to brand, I lean towards Leupold, Burris, Warne or Talley.  Others may feel differently.  You've put out quite a lot already for the barrel and scope, why scrimp now.  Whether you go with a Weaver style ring or dual dovetail, it's another matter of choice.  The Weaver style may be easier to mount.  With the dual dovetail rings, make sure that the rings are aligned properly.  Whichever you go with will determine the type of mount.

Gary,
You are going to love the contender, they are a blast to shoot.

I have Warne medium rings and Warne base on my G2 357 Max with TC 2-7 scope. I only use 2 rings and have not had any scope movement.
I use the same set-up on my muzzleloader also with no problems.
Clearance is enough to cock it, I don't think the Bushnell is any larger, should work fine with medium rings.

Oh, and Welcome to the world contenders.
