22 hornet velocities from a Handi

Has anyone chronographed their 22 Handi hornet? If so what were your loads and velocity? Thanks, Charlie

So far the only Hornet ammo I have run has been the Remington factoy 45g , it was running between 2750 FPS and 2900 FPS out of my 22" barrel .

I know that doesn't help much but it does give you some idea as to what the Hornet can do in the Handi .

Thank you Stimpy. That does help. I like to take a know (semi-known) velocity and use the trajectory tables in my Shooters Bible to project the range of a particular gun. Charlie

my favorite hunting load in the hornet is

50gr nosler ballistic tip
10gr imr-4227
cci sr primer
2240-fps   kinda slow but deadly........

some oal changes are to be made using the ballistic tip

excellent @100yrds .5" groups

35gr Vmax @ about 2900fps, 30gr Calhoun at 3450fps.

hornady v-max @3079fps on my chrony 10' from muzzle.
a good, no-good critter round ;D

Been tinkerin with 40 Grain Nosler BT and AA1680 and Lil Gun and have ran some past 2900 fps and great grouping.

45 grain Sierra Varminter SP Hornet and 12 grains Lil' Gun powder 2640 Fps.
3 shot sub 1/2" groups at 100 yards happen a lot with this load.

34 grain Mid South Supply Varmint Nightmare bullets with 12.4 grains of W296, CCI 500 primers and WW cases out of a 20" barrel. I am getting right around 3000 fps. This is a starting load in the Speer reloading manual #14 for their 33 grain bullets. No pressure signs, case life is long for a 22 Hornet. Good Luck and Good Shooting
