Loose barrel on Encore
« on: January 13, 2009, 09:05:34 AM »
Friend has Encore ML and just purchased a new 7mm Rem Mag carbine barrel.  Barrel shifts side to side or wags back and forth.  Should he get a Return Authorization from T/C first, or just send it in with a letter explaining the problem?  I don't know if they have return authorization requirements like some companies do.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

That is a common problem. I have an encore and it had the same problem. I put a 1X oversized hinge pin in it and it worked great!!! With this oversized hinge pin you have to tap it in instead of just pushing it in with your fingers. I hear about people putting in alot bigger pins and having to ream the holes out. But i wouldn't want to do that to my gun!!! Go with the smallest oversized hinge pin and then go up if needed!!! I hope this was some help to you!!! Good luck!!!!

If it is only the rifle barrel loose and not the black powder barrel I would think the rifle barrel has a problem. If the black powder barrel is tight I would check with T/C about the problem with the new rifle barrel. I would NOT use a oversize pin. I had a encore frame years ago that had a loose pin and tried a oversize pin. Useless in my opinion. I didn't see any improvement in accuracy and didn't like beating the 1X pin in. I would check with T/C service if one barrel is tight and one loose. If both are loose I would check with them about checking out the frame. I had a new pro hunter frame replaced years ago because of that side to side play. and was pleased with the results of the new frame that T/C sent. Good luck

I assume this happens with the action closed? I purshased a hinge pin that has an allen screw lock that prevents it from moving in the frame and I put a reference mark on it so I can always put it back in the same place.  I also put in a  heavy duty lockup spring. My barrel has some play when open but locks up solid when closed. The gun then shot under MOA with 165's. I tried one of those oversized hinge pins but didn't like beating up my gun to get it in and out. Whats worse, even though the play was gone the gun didn't shoot good so I put the locking pin back.
