Homemade shooting sticks
« on: January 12, 2009, 05:28:57 AM »
Like to hear your ideas.

I made a set using two 3/4" 48" dowels held together by a garden hose O-ring.  Tried a regular O-ring, but it just rolled down when setting the rifle on it.  The square edges on the garden hose O-ring keeps it from sliding down, but is still adjustable.

My oldest boy (9) just shot his first rabbit this weekend using it and a .17HMR.

These are second set I have made.  Oak 3/4 X 3/4 with a 1/4 20 wing nutted bolt.  Screws in the ends that have the heads ground off and fuzzy velcro just to cushon the sticks against the rifle stock.  They can also be opened straight to use as a single tall standing stick.  Larry

A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

Nice trotter...how tall are they?  Thanks for the suggestion - I like it.  Have you tried to submit to Field and Stream?  They used to pay for home-spun suggestions like that.

A pair of old carbon arrows tied with surgical tubing works great for a sitting height stick.

Varmit Al's web site has plans to make them like trotterlg's called Bifurpod. He also had a set with three legs.
I made the bi pod one like trotterlg's but used cap tape to pad them. I also made a set from golf club shafts that are perfict for sitting.
