Any Ruger SBH hunters out there?
« on: June 15, 2008, 06:05:50 PM »
I believe I have found the "Ultimate Hunting Handgun" which I thought I would just post here to get your opinions or if you like, you can contact them for one of these.  I know there are others that like many other calibers such as the .45 Colt, .454, 460, 480 and the 500 Magnum, but I personally like the .44 Magnum.  You can have them custom up your Ruger Super Redhawk as well.

What ever you want they can do it.

D & T Custom has done some awesome work to this 10.5" Ruger SBH .44 mag

From this

To This: Ruger "SUPREME HUNTER" 44 magnum

To see the step by step follow through, you can access 44 Magnum Transformed

If you like what you see:

I would like to claim ownership of that SBH Hunter, but I can not.

Would I love to own such a beauty, you bet.

BTW ihuntbucks, I am thinking of just getting the SBH Hunter as I really like those as well.  This year I will only be handgun hunting with my 4 5/8ths SBH at shorter ranges than you get with your SBH Hunter.

Not my cup of tea to my eyes that thing is UGLY!  :o Makes my eyes hurt to look at it.  :'( Tis a shame it wasn't left as it was. I'd have done no more than add a Bisley grip perhaps as I do prefer them over the standard by far. A long barreled gun like that begs to be shot with irons not a scope.

You know GB, I am curretly looking for a longer barreled handgun hunter, and I have to really make a good choice here.  I look at all the nice DA's that come with a much higher price than any SA's, knowing that in a handgun hunting situation most everyone will cock the hammer instead of shooting double action.  So, as I'm not in a hurry and will be shooting my Ruger SBH 4 5/8ths .44 Magnum for my handgun hunting at bowhunting distances which the max for me is 40 yards with iron sights.  I think I have this covered this year.  Who knows I just may like hunting with what I got already.

I then may decide to order one of the Ruger SBH Hunters 7.5" with a Bisley grip frame, and staying with the .44 Magnum cartridge.

Yep, iron sights are the way to go on a long barreled Ruger.

i got a sbh with 7 1/2" bbl for 300 with 700 handloads (240 grn lswc & 210 grn semi jacketed hp's) for 300.  in the box, with the rings, although i think i'll never put a scope on it.  the guy i got it from hunts black bears and mtn lions behind dogs, and he said the long barrel gets in the way with all the running and climbing.  he took the $ from me and got a 5" .45 lc.  i got it primarily for hogs in the tx panhandle, but the only thing i have shot with it besides coyotes was a mouflon ram.  it's my first .44 mag and i love this round. mine is nothing fancy, just stock black wood grips and stainless finish.  those posted above look pretty slick!

Great looking custom but I bet that muzzle break will make your ears bleed in the woods.

If you've got hunting buddies around you, they won't be your buddies for long.

I'll have to side with Greybeard and Johnnymac.  I have rifles lighter than that outfit.  If you have to put a sling on it, it AIN'T a handgun anymore, and loud, better start saving your pennies for a hearing aid soon to be needed.

Yes, I have a SBH with a 7 1'2" bbl. I have painted the front sight with a bright red nylon nail polish. The trigger is two pound and it shoots great. I have had it since Ruger first came out with them.
I shoot 23 grs 296 , mag primer, Keith 245 gr. SWC.
I am inclined to agree with what others have said. Iron sights are fine.
I use 6 clicks at 50 meters, 8 clicks at 100 meters, 12 clicks at 150 meters,
and 18.clicks at 200 meters. with a 6 o'clock hold.
It is my favorite pistol.
