MidwayUSA has them in latest flyer, can't find them on website though.

Looks like I will have to get a new loading manual.  I thought I was out of the bullet buying business for awhile but leverEvolution 30-30 bullets have my full attention.  Has there been any links to publish data for the bullets at this time?

I would contact Hornady and ask, they'll probably recommend data for one of their other bullets in the 7th edition.

I've been shooting the factory .45-70s with great results and I have a box of .30-30s to try if this wind and cold ever stops.  5 below this morning, about 5 above now with 40 mph winds, blowing snow.  Had to go tend the dogs, horses and chickens, get the mail, chuck wood in the fire and get my butt back in just now.  Face almost froze off!

I can vaguely remember what a Bahamas beach is like.

The Hornady website has a ballistics PDF download that gives some insight. Muzzle velocity etc.. That matched up with info in loading manuals should give an idea where to start loading any specific powder. Start low of course.

I am currently preparing my checklist for testing.

Consult Hornady recommend 170-grain 30-30 bullets.  Need to build in some safety margin.

Select cases, size, trim, prime, and load.

Load progressive increased charges starting low and working up.

Inspect loads.

Range Day!  Let wife know where I will be shooting and provide Lat/Long.

Ammunition and rifle.

Portable Bench

Range Box

Set out First Aid Kit

Inspect bore of rifle.

Setup Chrony

Wear Safety glasses

Wear long sleeve shirt under Nomex Flight Suit.

Firemen’s Nomex face scarf

Foam ear protection

Z-90 Helmet

High impact goggles over safety glasses

Vietnam period flack vest

Water

Lunch

Cellphone

Toilet paper

I will need to add to the list as time passes. ;)

I was at the SHOT show today and spoke w/ Hornady - they said the FTX (leverevolution) bullets are available now and are shipping to their distributors.    Should be available for purchase over the next two weeks.

Here's a Hornady data sheet on the 325gr .458" FTX in 45-70 loaded to levergun level.

Why does their data stop SOOO low?!  I expected 57 grains of H4198 for 2350 fps!

That's all the bullet will stand? Comparing it to the 350gr data in the 6th, I'd say this is the reason over pressure.  :-\

Thats pretty lame.  Ballistic tips blow up but the loading data still goes past "slow" with magnum calibers.  For those who want concrete data, you're stuck with what they give us, which is some pretty mild stuff.

Remember, it's a trapdoor load, must be safe for any 45-70 firearm, it's loaded to or below 28kpsi. Even at that, 2225fps is as fast as it's loaded in the 450Marlin LE ammo.
